Admission Procedure for IIMs




CAT, a key for admission in 13 IIMs and top B-schools in India. This section takes you through the details on Admission procedure for IIMs.
Performance in CAT 2012 examination is an important component in the admission process. Each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). IIMs may use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs.  For more information you may refer the admissions policies of IIMs from their respective websites
CAT Result and Short-listing
CAT 2012 result will be announced on 9 January 2013 on the CAT website. List of shortlisted candidates for the next level of selection will be made available on the individual IIM websites. Each IIM will send interview letters to the candidates it has short-listed. The criteria for short-listing candidates vary from IIM to IIM. CAT Eligibility




CAT or the Common Admission Test is the all-India entrance exam for admissions into Postgraduate and Fellow Programs in management courses conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). CATscores are also accepted by several other business and management schools. The test is designed to evaluate the management aptitude of a student by testing his analytical and communication skills.
Eligibility criteria for CAT 2012:
  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA awarded by any of the recognized universities or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. 
  • In case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)] the candidates must have obtained a CGPA of 45% by any of the recognized universities or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. 
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting Results can also apply. 
  • Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs.
  • Prospective candidates must maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process.
Note:
  • If you belong to SC or ST categories, your caste/tribe must be listed in the Government of India schedule. The caste certificate that you send to IIM should be in the Government approved format and should clearly state: (a) Name of your caste/tribe; (b) Whether you belong to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe; (c) District and the State or Union Territory of your ordinary residence; and (d) the appropriate Government of India schedule under which your caste/tribe is approved by it as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.

How to 

Register for CAT?




Common Admission Test or CAT is one of the key tests for obtaining admissions into management courses in India. The Indian Institute of Management conducts the CAT exam every year. The number of aspirants taking up the CATexam is increasing every year. In 2011, nearly 2.05 lakh candidates registered for the CAT exam.
How to apply for CAT 2012:
  • Check your eligibility for CAT 2012 on www.catiim.in.
  • Before registering and scheduling for your test, you will need to purchase a CAT 2012 voucher from any of the selected Axis Bank branches between July 30, 2012 and September 17, 2012.
  • Interested candidates can register between July 30, 2012 to September 19, 2012.
  • Ensure you have a valid and unique email address before you begin the registration process.
  • During registration, you will have to create a profile, fill out the CATapplication and schedule your test.
  • Once you complete the Application and choose the “I agree” button, all your information will be entered and saved into Prometric’s computerized data entry system. After your information has been successfully saved, a copy of your application will be emailed to you within 24 hours to the email address specified by you.
  • Once your application has been successfully submitted, you can continue the online process to schedule an appointment to take the CAT unless you are a DA candidate who has selected support requirements for the test.
  • If all information has been entered correctly, you will see a confirmation screen. You should read the confirmation screen to make sure all information is correct. If something is not correct, click the “Edit” button in the area where there correction needs to be made.
  • When you receive your Admit Card by email, you should read it carefully and verify all information is correct. You should then print a copy.  You must bringthe Admit Card with you on the day you take your test. You will not be allowed to test without the Admit Card.

Paper pattern for CAT





The Indian Institute of Management conducts the Common admission Test (CAT) for admissions into Postgraduate and Fellow management programmes.CAT is the entrance exam for management courses in many of the business schools including the IIMs. The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode will be conducting the CAT2012 exams between Thursday, October 11, 2012 to Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
The test is designed to evaluate the management aptitude of a student by testing his analytical and communication skills. It demands up to three to four months of intense preparation.
Paper Pattern for CAT 2012:
  • CAT 2012 will be a computer-based test like in 2011.
  • CAT 2012 will have two sections. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning are the two sections.
  • Both the sections will have a separate time-limit. Each of the sections will be for one hour and ten minutes.
  • There will be 30 questions in each section
  • Once time ends for the first section, the aspirants will move to the second without the option of coming back to the previous one.
  • Candidates will also be given a 15-minute tutorial before the commencement of the main examination.
  • The section on Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation will be presented first, followed by Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning.
